High schooler, Madeline Jackman from Newburyport, Massachusetts is teaching CPR to restaurant workers.

CBS News Boston did a story about this poor high school kid who was inspired to teach CPR to restaurant workers because of something that happened to her. She told WBZ-TV,

When I was eight years old, I was out for dinner, and then I started choking on steak. No one in my family knew CPR or the Heimlich. No one could help me. Luckily, there was someone at the restaurant who was a nurse and knew CPR and saved my life.

Madeline started the Red Cross Club at her high school and the Heart Starters part of the club gives free CPR training to restaurants in the area. They are grateful for the help. As one restaurant worker in Newburyport points out, people in restaurants sometimes choke or pass out or are just overwhelmed and this training is needed to help them.

The training in Newburyport is free thanks to fundraising and generous donations

Madeline is very proud of the work she's been able to do and the help she and her team are providing. So are the restaurants! One restaurant owner told WBZ-TV,

It brings the community together in many ways because we're all more prepared for an emergency. The more people that know the better. I think it's really brave of them to put it together and they did a great job.

All it takes is one person to change the lives of so many others...and this one person is still in high school.
