Red Sox legend Jerry Remy passed away Sunday after a battle with cancer at the age of 68.

"This weekend we lost our beloved Jerry Remy - a former player, broadcaster, Red Sox Hall of Famer & friend," the Red Sox said in a tweet on the team account.

"For over 40 years, the RemDawg captured the hearts of Red Sox Nation. Our thoughts & countless memories are with Jerry’s wife, Phoebe, their family & our friends at NESN."

The second baseman turned NESN broadcaster had stepped away from the broadcast booth in August to undergo lung cancer treatments. It was his seventh round of treatments after declaring himself "cancer free" twice in 2018.

"As I’ve done before and will continue to do, I will battle this with everything I have," he said in a message to fans.

Remy made his final public appearance during the Red Sox Wild Card game with the Yankees on Oct. 5 when he threw the ceremonial first pitch to fellow Red Sox Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley.

He was smiling and gave a big wave to the crowd as he was driven around Fenway Park.
