What is wrong with you, New England? Your taste in Christmas movies is lacking significantly based on this research. I came across a list of the favorite Christmas movie in each state, and either this data is flawed or I am out of touch. Maybe both.

Preply put together a list of favorite Christmas movies for each state by analyzing search trends for keywords related to 115 of the highest-rated and highest-grossing Christmas movies of all time, according to Rotten Tomatoes and Box Office Mojo. Then the list was narrowed down to the the top 25 most-searched-for movies and evaluated on how popular they were in each state.

I was curious what the six New England states picked as their favorite Christmas movies, and I had never even heard of half of them.

Let's dive into the weird Christmas movies that the New England states picked.

Maine - The Christmas Chronicles

Released in 2018 on Netflix, The Christmas Chronicles stars Kurt Russell as Santa. It follows two kids who jump into Santa's sleigh and crash it, leaving them to deliver all the presents. Mainers seem to love this movie, if the research is accurate.

New Hampshire - Klaus

I'm starting to think that people are only watching new Christmas movies on streaming services. New Hampshire's favorite Christmas movie is Klaus, another film distributed by Netflix. The plot summary reads,

After proving himself to be the worst student at the academy, a postman is sent to a frozen town in the North where he discovers a reclusive toymaker named Klaus.

So this is a Santa Claus origin story? Pass.

Vermont - Krampus, It's a Wonderful Life, Frosty the Snowman

Vermont can't make up its mind what its favorite Christmas movie is, because they ended up in a three-way tie. But at least there are two classics here. Krampus isn't one of them. The plot centers around ancient European folklore that warns of Krampus, a horned beast who punishes naughty children at Christmastime. Sounds like if you want to scare the you-know-what out of our kids, this is your movie. Better off going with Vermont's other choices, It's A Wonderful Life" and Frosty the Snowman (which is not a movie, it's a TV special). The whole thing clocks in at just 25 minutes.

Massachusetts - Happiest Season

Happiest Season looks like a Hallmark Movie, but it's on Hulu. The plot summary reads,

A young woman with a plan to propose to her girlfriend while at her family's annual holiday party discovers her partner hasn't yet come out to her conservative parents.

Okay, I might be on board with this one, Massachusetts.

Connecticut - Last Christmas

The good news is that Last Christmas is indeed named after the popular song by Wham! The bad news is this movie starring Emilia Clark and Henry Golding got 46% on Rotten Tomatoes from the critics. The audience however gave it 81%. Looks like most of that 81% was from Connecticut.

Rhode Island - Home Alone

You knew this had to show up somewhere, and it does thanks to Rhode Island. Home Alone is a classic that never gets tiring. Or does it?

So where's Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Elf, The Santa Claus, Scrooged? I'm disappointed, New England.
