The side effects from 2020 are still being felt across the country when it comes to concerts. Some venues managed to endure, while others decided to close up shop. One thing seemed certain, however: there probably wouldn't be any NEW music venues opening up any time soon. Well, think again, because Boston is about to get a brand new state-of-the-art music venue that will bring even more headlining acts to New England.

According to Boston.com, the new venue will be known as Roadrunner. Its name is inspired by a love song to Massachusetts by the band Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers. The venue will be large, and more than 50,000 square feet. The venue plans to hold around 3,500 people at capacity, with unobstructed views throughout. Roadrunner plans to be the largest general admission concert venue in New England, leaving the reserved seats for other settings.

Since the announcement of Roadrunner last year, it's been a hustle to put the finishing touches on the venue in time for it to be fully operational by the spring of 2022. They have a handful of shows scheduled for March, including performances by Dropkick Murphys, Bleachers, and Chelsea Cutler. The remainder of their ever-changing schedule for the year includes other heavy hitters like LCD Soundsystem, Olivia Rodrigo, Rise Against, Bastille, and Midnight Oil.

Roadrunner will be operated by AEG-affiliated promoter The Bowery Presents, which also works with venues in Maine like the State Theatre and Thompson's Point to bring shows in. Roadrunner will be located at 89 Guest St as part of the Boston Landing neighborhood.
