Maine Nonprofit Receives a Generous $1.4 Million Gift This Holiday Season
A Lee, Maine, nonprofit received a once-in-a-lifetime gift this past holiday season.
News Center Maine reported that House in the Woods, a nonprofit that provides respite for military personnel and families, received a $1.4 million anonymous donation in early December.
Not surprisingly, the organization was completely blown away.
The incredibly generous donation will help House in the Woods pay off what they still owe on the cabin they use for their programs, the news station reported.
House in the Woods was founded by Deanna and Paul House over 10 years ago, according to the nonprofit's website. It provides military personnel and their families recreational and therapeutic retreats.
The Houses founded the organization after their son was killed by a roadside bomb while serving in Iraq, the website states.
House in the Woods was founded on a basis of support. The organization's mission statement is below:
Our Mission is to create a therapeutic, recreational, and educational retreat for our nation's U.S. armed forces and their families, using outdoor wilderness activities in Maine and natural habitats to help participants share common challenges related to their service and sacrifice in protecting our nation's freedom and democratic ideals.
According to News Center Maine, the Houses said the donation came from a couple but wanted to remain anonymous.
What fantastic news for an organization that has been doing exceptional work for over a decade. And, what an amazing philanthropic gesture from a couple that clearly cares about the well-being of our service members and their families.
A donation like this doesn't just help a nonprofit, it elevates it to another level. Just imagine how much House in the Woods will be able to change its spending.
I congratulate Deanna and Paul House on this news. More importantly, I commend them for the work they have done and continue to do for our military members and their families. It's wonderful to know that countless more families will be able to experience House in the Woods.
