Over the weekend of running around getting some shopping done, we noticed loads of pumpkins on display in front of several stores we went to.

My wife reminded me that we needed to pick some up soon for our place. I immediately agreed. But, I suggested we pass on store-bought and go to a family farm to pick some out.

After coming across this news on Facebook, now I know where we'll head to get our orange winter squash for carving jack o' lanterns.

It'll be about an hour and half drive to get there from Greater Portland and absolutely worth every minute of time. You see, there is a place in Caanan, Maine, selling pumpkins, and all the proceeds go to the local Make-A-Wish chapter.

The place is Ring Family Farm. According to their Facebook page, a fall festival that they have held annually for many years won't be happening as originally scheduled on October 10. The big fun event is off this year.

However, the fundraiser is on and we can participate by heading up there for pumpkins and more at their farm stand. The post below says they are open 10a to 5p, everyday.

And if you can't get there from here, donations can be made with a check to Make-A-Wish Maine that can be sent to: Danny Ring 1228 Hill Road Canaan, ME 04924.

Here's all the details from the big hearted folks at Ring Family Farm.
