Ian from Damariscotta, Maine, is fighting a rare cancer for the second time, and he's only 13 years old.

When Ian was just 10 years old, he hurt his knee on the playground. Just a few weeks later, it was worse and the pain would wake him up and it kept him from his normal activities.

After an MRI, doctors were very confident that this poor kid had a rare bone cancer: Osteosarcoma, which only six kids in Maine develop every year.

Ian from Damariscotta, Maine, had his right leg amputated and now faces possible amputation of his left leg

Bone cancer is such a rarity in Maine that they do not have specialists in the state.

Ian and his family had to go to Boston Children's Hospital for a biopsy. Once diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, they worked with the Maine Children’s Cancer Center to develop a chemotherapy plan of 30 weeks.

Those treatments were at the Barbara Bush Hospital in Portland.

Just two short years later, Ian was diagnosed with the same cancer in his left leg. It has baffled doctors as it is totally unrelated to his first cancer.

This time, they must get treated in Boston. Ian will have the cancer removed but may lose his left leg, too.

The Michaud family has four dear friends who call themselves the Michaud Elves. They try to oversee fundraising, housework, childcare, and anything their dear friends need.

They have set up a GoFundMe page to help with the enormous cost, as mom (Kristin) cannot work while caring for Ian.
