Lewiston, Maine, Drivers Beware – Police Will Be Out Enforcing Traffic Violations
If you regularly drive in Lewiston, Maine you might want to make sure that you are obeying all the traffic laws.
The Lewiston Police Department posted on its Facebook page on December 16 that it had been awarded a grant from the Bureau of Highway Safety. That grant is going to be used to hire officers dedicated to enforcing traffic violations specifically. We're talking about speeding, running red lights, not wearing your seat belt, texting on your phone, operating under the influence, stopping for pedestrians running red lights and not stopping at stop signs. There are a large number of traffic violations that you could get a ticket for if you are one of those drivers in violation.
This is basic stuff that we all know, yet so many drivers either forget or just don't care. This traffic detail is something that will not just ticket offenders who commit the violations but also will be an education and reminder that you need to obey traffic laws to keep others and yourself safe.
It's not just drivers, but pedestrians too. Many just think they automatically have the right-of-way if they are in a crosswalk. That may be true if the crosswalk is not protected by any traffic signals. If there are walk and don't walk signs at the crosswalk, you need to wait for the walk signal to cross the road.
The Lewiston Police Department has not announced any dates or times for these traffic details, but don't worry about it. If you aren't violating any of the traffic laws, you'll be fine if you encounter one of these details.
