Shelter-in-Place Lifted Around Lewiston, but Vigilance Remains

The shelter-in-place order has been rescinded in Androscoggin and northern Sagadahoc counties, but residents should remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings.

“This is not to say the crisis is over, the emergency is over,” Maine Public Safety Commissioner Michael Sauschuck said at a late Friday afternoon briefing. “We want residents to remain vigilant.”

As the search for gunman Robert Card continues, Maine Public Safety Commissioner Michael Sauschuck said that Maine Fish and Game has put a ban on hunting in Lewiston, Lisbon, Monmouth, and Bowdoin. He also warned that residents may also hear gunshots in the woods during the weekend in the rest of the state, and should not be alarmed.

Sauschuck announced the names of all 18 victims during a press conference late Friday afternoon, although many family and friends have shared their losses on social media and with news outlets.

The reading of their names was followed by a brief moment of silence. The ages of the victims ranged from 14 to 76, according to Sauschuck.

Investigators continued their search for around the Pejepscot Boat Ramp on the Androscoggin River in Lisbon, where Card's Subaru Outback was found abandoned Wednesday night. Additional dive teams from out-of-state will return on Saturday.

Sauschuck said Card has not been seen by law enforcement for two days.
