Ready to Skate for Free at This 6,400-Square-Foot Maine Ice Rink of Fun?

The weather is not cooperating yet this winter, but Pineland Farms in New Gloucester, Maine, sure is trying.

They've just built a beautiful new rink, and all they need is for Mother Nature to do her part and make it freezing cold.

Cold is not a bad word in Maine.  In fact, most residents love the winter weather, but with all the rain New England has had lately, it is not a good start to the season for skiing and other winter sports.

You know the New England weather quote.  If you don't like the weather, just wait a minute.  And so it goes for Maine as well.  It's only December, so we still have time for the cold winter months so we can skate outdoors and ski.

According to their website, Pineland Farms,

..has over 5,000 acres of beautiful woodlands and fields that are open to the public for year-round outdoor activities. Enjoy 30 kilometers of professionally designed, well-kept trails for biking, walking, trail running, Nordic skiing and snowshoeing.

Looks pretty great, right? The new 80' x 80' rink is just in front of the Outdoor & Fitness Center. But the rink in 2021 looks a little bigger.  Have a look.

Looks like they were having some squabbles with Mother Nature three years ago too.

Check out the trail and skating conditions at pinelandfarms.org, before you go.  The farm needs three days of freezing temps to open the rink, and then it has to stay cold, or they have to close it until it freezes again.
