As part of the 13 colonies, many New England schools were among the first organized educational settings in the United States. Because of the history and time operating as schools, many school systems in New England are "the best in the country."

Not all public school systems are built the same. Some school systems are funded more than others. Some school systems have a better teacher-to-student ratio, allowing for more hands-on learning and more attention at a young age.
WalletHub did a study to find the states with the best public school rankings...and three New England States cleaned house, with 3 states landing in the top 5.

The state with the best public school systems in America is Massachusetts. Massachusetts public schools came in first place with the highest reading and math scores.
New Hampshire was nearby in the #5 spot - the fifth-best state for public school systems in the USA. Below are some of New Hampshire's "stats:"
