This Maine Apple Orchard Has 54 Varieties & 150-Year-Old Trees
OK, I found another place to add to the “things we’re absolutely doing this fall” list.
I came across a video from local influencer The Maine Menu showing off Sweetser’s Apple Barrel & Orchards in Cumberland, and my immediate thought was, Wait… how have I not been here?! Because this place is CUTE.

Like, grab the kids, throw on a sweatshirt, put everyone in the car and go get apples cute. Sweetser’s has been part of the same family farm since 1812. Yep. 1812.
This place has been growing apples since before most of our great-great-great-great-whatevers were even around.
And get this babe: The orchard is located at 19 Blanchard Road in Cumberland Center and now grows 54 different varieties of apples, including heritage varieties, and some of the trees are more than 150 years old and are STILL producing fruit.
Meanwhile, my houseplant needs a pep talk every three days or it will die.
It’s also only about 10 miles north of Portland, making it a pretty easy fall outing if you want some fresh air, apples, foliage and that classic Maine fall feeling without turning it into a whole production.

And if you’re a mom, you already know the goal: something fun for the kids that also gives you a cute photo, a snack and a reason to drink cider. Honestly? I’m sold. I'm over sold at this point. Find me there.
So grab your people, grab a sweater and go make an apple orchard memory. Sweetser’s is officially on my fall list.
