Paul Simon Coming to New Hampshire and Here’s How You Can Win Tickets
June 30 is one of my favorite days of the year because it is my son's birthday. Add Paul Simon coming to New Hampshire on that day into the mix and that's a banner day.
Paul Simon is a Stunning Songwriter
If you are a fan of Paul's solo work or the songs of Simon & Garfunkel, to say that he is a brilliant songwriter is probably the most obvious statement ever, but I say that to get the attention of people who may not know his body of work.
Paul came out with his incredible album "Graceland" in 1986, which I could listen to over and over for a very long time. The biggest hit from that album, although all the songs were so good, was "You Can Call Me Al." The classic video stars Chevy Chase.
Simon & Garfunkel Tipping Point for Their Split May Have Been Because of This
Paul Simon's partnership with Art Garfunkel were together for approximately 6 years. In that time, they had great success churning out 5 albums, but the song that may have split them up is "Bridge Over Troubled Water."
Paul wrote this poignant song very quickly. It just poured out of him and he was very proud of it. Art, however, got a lot of attention because of the vocals. (It's a singers song) Paul didn't like that very much. Because of that and many other reasons, I'm sure, they went their separate ways.
If I Had to Choose One Favorite Paul Simon Song, it Would Be This One
It would be difficult for me to choose a favorite Paul Simon song, including the above videos, but if I HAD TO choose one, it might be St. Judy's Comet from "There Goes Rhymin' Simon" in 1973. The song is beautiful no matter what, but if you are a parent, you can particularly relate. The lyrics are everything. One of the comments on this song said, "One of the best decisions I ever made was to listen to this song in headphones." I agree.
