I received a text message from a friend on Friday with an Instagram screenshot – a text that I was not expecting and one that definitely put a damper on my Friday. You may have the spot or two that you kind of consider your “home base” when it comes to your go-to restaurants and that was Coals Bayside for me.

Coals opened in June of 2019 and quickly became a popular spot. Their delicious and unique grilled thin crust pizzas were the talk of the town. But it didn’t stop there. Their Big O’Brion burger was, hands down, my favorite burger in town. Their wings were Portland famous and you didn't need to be a veggie fan to love the buffalo cauliflower.

Knowing once the word got out, it was going to be a busy last weekend at Coals but that didn’t stop me. I had to get one more Bee Cool pizza and one more Big O’Brion burger. I managed to squeeze my way in for what was a bittersweet night with some really good food.

After dinner I had a brief conversation with owner Ozzy Morales who, in so many words, lead me to believe that his quest to serve up amazing food here in Maine isn't over.

Thanks to Ozzy and the staff at Coals Bayside for 5 great years of good times and great food.
