Lewiston Strong: Newly-Renovated Just-In-Time Recreation Reopens Today
It's been over six months since Maine's worst mass shooting took place in Lewiston, Maine.
One of the businesses that the shooter walked into was Just-in-Time Recreation. Eight people were killed there, others wounded, and all of Maine was affected. 18 lives were lost on that fateful day of October 25, 2023.
This table now sits in the newly renovated Just-In-Time Recreation, with the names and faces of those killed.
- Tricia C. Asselin, 53
- Jason Adam Walker, 51
- Thomas Ryan Conrad, 34
- Michael R. Deslauriers II, 51
- Lucille M. Violette, 73
- Robert E. Violette, 76
- William A. Young, 44
- Aaron Young, 14
As Just-In-Time reopens, there are remembrances honoring those who were killed so senselessly, but there is a lot of hope and excitement. It's fantastic to have them back open! We need this. Justin Juray, the owner, needs this. Maine needs this.
Just-In-Time is a love letter to Lewiston
There are so many nods to the city that got hit hard in 2023. But the silver lining in all of this is the light shined on the city with a nasty nickname. Just-In-Time honors not just those who were killed, but the city they called home: Lewiston. The placards above the lanes are pictures of Lewiston. The placards were made by Pioneer Plastics (Auburn), and the photography was done by Richard Plourde Photography (Lewiston).
Lost Valley Brewing made an IPA to honor the victims called '18 Angels'
When you grab a cold one, make it an 18 Angels from Lost Valley Brewing. $1 from each beer will go to the Bob and Lucy Violette Bowling Foundation. Bob Violette was a retired Sears mechanic who loved to bowl on most weekdays. He started a youth league and was in a couples league with his wife, Lucy.
No, Just-In-Time Recreation did NOT get its name from the owner, Justin.
Of course you would think that. But it's even better. Justin and his wife Samantha often bowled at Sparetime Recreation. One night, Justin saw a flyer about the owner wanting to sell. This was in 2021, and the day he saw the flyer was the last day the place was for sale. So they bought it...just in time.
Thank you, Just-In-Time Recreation! All of Maine has your back, as your success is our success! Congratulations on being exactly what Lewiston Strong is all about!
