Looking Back at My High School Years at Oxford Hills
As my son gets ready to start college, I think to myself, “How can this kid be an adult already?”
That's my son Jake on my left, who is headed to UNE to study marine biology. My Dad is on my right, still probably remembering how I was in high school and enjoying the fact that three generations of Parsons are together for this moment.
Jake did well in high school. Probably even better than I did, and I'm sure he'll do the same in college.
For me, high school was one of the most fun times of my pre-adult life. Junior high sucked because of the bullying I received there. 13-year-olds can be some of the meanest humans on earth.
By the time I got to high school, the bullying seemed to have stopped, and I really enjoyed the years I spent there, despite the fact that my father was the assistant principal. He knew what my report card looked like before I did.
It was in high school that I took my first steps in my career, starting with DJing at school dances. Then I did some PA work by reading the morning announcements over the intercom and announcing the starting lineups for the girls' basketball team.
After hearing me announce the lineups, one of the adults said I had a really good voice and should think about getting into radio. The rest is history.
It's been 36 years since I graduated from Oxford Hills High School, as it was formerly known before it became "comprehensive." Take a look at some of the photos of me back in the day from my four yearbooks I recently dug up. Some are embarrassing, while others bring back great memories.
