AI is Officially Riding Shotgun in Maine Ambulances
So this is one of those stories that make you stop and say to yourself, wait, AI is doing what now?
According to News Center Maine, a Maine town’s fire department in Hermon, Maine is officially the very first in the state to put artificial intelligence into the back of an ambulance, honestly, this is kind of incredible.
According to the article, they’ve installed this thing called “smart scale” system, which calculates the patients weight without having to guess.
This is known as OneWeight, and it’s smart.
By automatically calculating the patients weight, diminishes any human error in determining the weight to best suit their medication dosing needs.

When AI steps in in situations like this, I think it’s great. And if you are thinking, weren’t they already doing that? Yes but, before this the EMTs had to rely on estimates. And in high stress and chaotic situations, especially when patients cannot respond, it’s not ideal. This is why it matters.
News Center Maine reported on this via YouTube, below.
Now there is no mental math, just accuracy and potentially life saving decisions.
The report states this upgrade costs about $10,000, and the department adds that the benefit is priceless.
