Freezing Rain Ices Up Roads, Some NH Schools Go Remote
It was an icy start to Wednesday as freezing rain fell on the Seacoast moving classes online and closing roads.
Freezing rain fell for much of the night causing roads, steps and sidewalks to become icy as a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 4 p.m. for the entire area including all of Rockingham, Strafford and York counties. No significant snow accumulation is expected from the storm.
Several Seacoast school districts posted changes to their schedule for Wednesday:
- Dover Public School district - remote learning
- Newmarket school district - 2 hour delay
- Oyster River School District - remote learning
- SAU 16 in Exeter - 2 hour delay
- Raymond - closed
- Timberlane Regional School District - 2 hour delay
There was also a crash on eastbound Route 101 in Raymond between Exits 5 and 6 around 5:30 a.m. that closed the road for about 45 minutes.
The Rockingham Alert Facebook page reported a serious crash on East Road (Route 107) in East Kingston closing the road between North Road and the Kensington border.
Temperatures will continue to rise through the morning from the 30s, according to the National Weather Service in Gray, Maine. There could be periods of snow and sleet before the precipitation turns to rain.
Winds will become gusty out of the west at about 15 mph as the storm pulls away sending temperatures into the lower 20s with a wind chill in the single digits.
