Forget Winter Igloos, These 2 Maine Restaurants Let You Dine in Heated Gondolas
If one lesson was learned from the pandemic, it's that people are still willing to eat "outside" in the winter if you surround them with the right setting. Because of that, heated igloos took off in popularity, with many places throughout New England up the trendy option. Now, a pair of Maine restaurants are going next level, ditching the igloos for heated, custom-built gondolas with an upscale menu.
The Kennebunkport Inn
Locals and visitors to the Kennebunkport Inn know all about the Burleigh and the culinary deliciousness the restaurant has offered up. If sitting indoors during the winter just seems too mundane for you, the Kennebunkport Inn will offer up three custom-built gondolas for your dining experience, starting in January. Each gondola can set between 4 to 6 people, and while it is heated, the Kennebunkport Inn suggests you bring some additional layers to ward off any chill. Be advised that there is a 90-minute limit for sitting inside one of the gondolas, as well as a food and beverage minimum that must be met. Reservations are required.
Via Sophia by the Sea
Located in Kennebunk, Via Sophia by the Sea has imagined their gondola dining experience as transporting guests to the Italian Alps for an unforgettable meal. Their custom-built gondola can seat up to six guests comfortably with a 2-hour dining limit. While also heated, on the coldest days, Via Sophia by the Sea suggests bringing additional clothing or blankets to keep warm. Similar to the Kennebunkport Inn, there's a food and beverage minimum that must be met. Reservations are required.
