It's more than just a tourist trap on a floating boat you can eat on.

DiMillo's FLOATING restaurant is the restaurant tourists seem to be drawn to. I'll never forget when I went to Dimillo's for the first time almost 40 years ago. I had recently moved here from Idaho and had never seen a whole lobster. I had my first whole lobster experience at DiMillio's.

I had no idea how to use the bib and tried to put my arms through the holes. Don't worry, someone saved me. From that first time decades ago, heading to Dimillo's has always been a treat. But with all the great restaurants in Portland, I think that sometimes DiMillo's doesn't get its fair share of the love! And they deserve it.

Chef Melissa Bouchard

Chef Melissa Bouchard has worked for the DiMillo family for 19 years and has been the chef for the last 10 years. She focuses on simply prepared meals with a focus on Maine’s produce and seafood. I had fried shrimp. I enjoyed every morsel. The fried clams were ordered by a couple of people at our table after one of my friends exclaimed,

They have the BEST fried clams!

She wasn't kidding. These clams were sweet, plump, perfectly coated and fried, and simply delicious! After the eight of us had eaten most of every bite of food on the table, that's when I started to think - why aren't people talking bout DiMillo's food more? So I will.

Yes, the floating boat part is super cool. And yes, it ALWAYS gets me when the boat rocks a little. Once you remember you are in a floating restaurant, that feeling goes away. But it's the great food that Chef Melissa prepares that should be your first thought. *and don't forget - free parking. But be sure to bring that ticket in! *
