My New Obsession is the ‘Croffle’ Found in Portland, Maine
You've heard of the cronut, and now you must have the croffle.
I came across an article in the Portland Press Herald about an ice cream shop in Portland, Maine that was making ice cream more of a year-round treat. But it was the 'croffle' that caught my attention at Le'Cha on Stevens Avenue in Portland, Maine.
What is a 'croffle' at Le'Cha in Portland, Maine?
Much like the cronut, the croffle is a combination of two treats: croissant and waffle. Wikipedia credits the creation:
The croffle is a hybrid of a croissant and waffle. It was popularized in South Korea and then spread throughout the world.
This is just one of the hidden treats at Le'Cha. They are first and foremost a bubble tea and ice cream shop, having opened last year. Focused on the croffle, I wasn't sure which one to get. Should I venture into a matcha croffle? Nope. For my first one, I went with strawberry.

I am in love with this sweet little shop. They have Gifford's hard-serve ice cream and Thai-inspired drinks along with soft serve with flavors like no other (milk tea, Thai tea). But my obsession was the croffle. I watched it being made and it's a fluffy croissant placed in waffle iron. Then it was topped with whipped cream, a strawberry drizzle, and two freshly cut strawberries. I couldn't quite see the creation so I peaked underneath.
The bottom line? It was delicious! Sweet, but not too sweet, you could see the layers of croissant, and the combination of whipped cream, strawberry drizzle, and fresh strawberry was spectacular! Plus, this place is so cute and open 7 days a week!

The truly shocking part of my first croffle and Le'Cha experience is how affordable it is! Put this shop in the Old Port and the prices would easily triple! But out on Stevens Avenue in the Deering High School area, it was affordable, adorable, and a must-stop.
