After a Near-Fatal Motorcycle Crash, Organizer Returns for Maine Suicide Awareness Ride

Nick Danforth of Lewiston almost didn't make it to last year's ride, now, he leading Maine's largest suicide awareness ride.

Yet, sometimes, like gives you a second chance.

Just two days before the 2025 Ride for Suicide Awareness, one of the event’s organizers was involved in a devastating motorcycle crash that nearly took their life.

This year, they’re back stronger, grateful, and more determined than ever to help others find hope.

That powerful comeback is at the heart of the 10th Annual Ride for Suicide Awareness, happening Saturday, August 9, at L-A Harley-Davidson in Lewiston.  

While hundreds of motorcycles will fill the roads, organizers say this event has never been just about the ride.

It’s about breaking the stigma surrounding mental health, honoring loved ones lost to suicide, supporting those who are struggling, and reminding everyone that asking for help is a sign of strength not weakness. 

The annual event has become a powerful gathering for riders, families, friends, and community members who believe no one should have to face life’s darkest moments alone.

Organizers hope that by sharing personal stories of survival and resilience, they’ll inspire someone who may be silently struggling to reach out for help.  

The day kicks off with gates opening at 9:00 a.m., followed by kickstands up at noon.

This year's Ride for Suicide Awareness is dedicated to the memory of Errica Beaulieu, whose life and legacy continue to inspire others.

Throughout the event, riders, family, and friends will honor Errica while remembering everyone lost to suicide, carrying forward a message of hope, healing, and the reminder that no one has to face their struggles alone.
