As reported by the Portland Press Herald earlier today, live concerts will be making a return to Maine State Pier this summer. This comes as a surprise to many, including us, because last we heard, the lease for the space was done, and the noise complaints were piling up. However, the city council voted unanimously in favor of the venue's continued operation.

The PPH also touched on the controversies surrounding the venue, including the number of noise complaints filed there over the years. (There were 45 over the course of 28 shows in 2016). As far as the noise goes, let's be real -- You don't move to downtown Portland for the peace and quiet.

We don't know how long this return will last, but it's certainly welcome news to music fans in the Portland area. They've had a number of fantastic shows down there over the years, hosting everyone from Dark Star Orchestra to Joe Bonamassa to Primus. Let's hope that trend continues!
