The Clinton, Maine, Police Department is getting laughs online after posting a funny message on Facebook about Santa, his elves, and one of their own officers.
The post starts with a warning: “Ladies, we need to talk…” According to police, every time someone asks Santa for the perfect man, the elves somehow end up at the Clinton Police Department. And not just anywhere. They go straight for Auxiliary Officer Caleb Proctor.
Police say this proves the elves have clearly never met him.
The department jokingly describes Proctor as sitting in a chair like he is waiting for his mom to pick him up from band practice, while wearing a hat that looks like he got dressed in the dark. Despite this, the elves keep trying to haul him away, convinced he is exactly what everyone asked Santa for.
The post asks people to stop confusing the elves, saying they already have enough problems to deal with this time of year.
“Please stop confusing the elves,” the post reads. “They clearly have enough problems.”
The message ends with the department’s playful sign-off, “ The Cops With A COP,” and is signed by Officer M. Conners.
The joke clearly landed. At the time this story was written, the post had more than 500 likes and over 130 comments, with people sharing it and adding their own jokes in the replies. Many said it was nice to see police showing their sense of humor and not taking themselves too seriously.

During a busy holiday season, the Clinton Police Department reminded everyone that laughter can go a long way, even if it means protecting an officer from Santa’s confused elves.
