While window shopping at Shaw's in Portland, Maine I did a double take in the bakery.

I often will cruise the bakery of a store I'm in. It's more to look than to buy. I'm always trying to be good and sometimes just looking at all the deliciousness can be enough. So there I was at Shaw's in Northgate in Portland, Maine when I saw a whoopie pie that made me pause.

Cheese? A cheese-flavored whoopie pie?  I mean, I consider myself an adventurous type - but cheese? I figured it was 'cream cheese' but thought I'd ask. Yes, it's the same topping for carrot cake but as the filling. They have peanut butter, cookies and cream, and sometimes strawberry-flavored. So it's not boursin cheese which was my initial thought and I wasn't completely grossed out. Just slightly.

I've never been a huge fan of Maine's whoopie pies

Contrary to the above picture, whoopie pies have never been my favorite. The traditional dark chocolate cake with the white sugary filling. This whoopie pie I am scarfing down is an apple maple with a cream cheese filling. I got this at Kelly's Bakehouse and Deli in South Portland, Maine. They are an annual contributor to our Cans for a Cure fundraiser (hence the pink outfit).

Cream cheese filling...ahhh, now the whoopie pie at Shaw's makes sense!

Maybe Shaw's in Portland, Maine just needs new stickers

Now that I know that it's cream cheese, they were so nice at Shaw's, I'm gonna have to try one. Again, this visit was just window shopping.
