Your CMP Bill is About to Go Up – Here’s How Much More You’ll Pay
Get ready, Mainers. Another Central Maine Power Company price hike is looming on the horizon. How much more will you have to pay?
Why Another Increase?
According to an article in the Portland Press Herald, Central Maine Power had heightened storm recovery costs. Flooding and frequent storms in 2023 and 2024 put a big dent in CMP's budget, so the increase is going into place to cover those costs.
How Much Will Your Bill Go Up?
That depends on who you get your electric supply from. Since electricity supply is like gasoline, where you pay for what you use, that final number on your bill is a reflection of how much electricity you use each month.
The average usage in kilowatt hours for CMP customers on the standard offer rate is 550 kilowatt hours per month. Standard offer customers will see an increase of about 3.3%, which is $4.91 a month for electricity.
Keep in mind that's for people using 550 kw/h of electricity per month. Your bill will fluctuate due to your usage.

You'll also see a 5.3% increase in the transmission and distribution portion of your bill. That's the portion that you pay to have the electricity delivered to your home.
When Does the Increase Go Into Effect?
It's coming sooner than you think. Your July CMP bill will be the first with the rate increase that goes into effect July 1, 2025. Hopefully, for most people, this will be an easy pill to swallow, but if for any reason you struggle with your electric bill, Central Maine Power has options for you on their website at cmpco.com
