Over 50 of the Best Maine Breweries You Need to Visit at Least Once
Here's a statistic you might find surprising. Did you know that Maine has just over 100 local breweries throughout the state? That's incredible.
According to the Maine Brewers Guild, the craft brewery scene in Maine began back in 1986 when David Geary opened D.L. Geary Brewing Company in Portland. Before that, you were mostly getting your beer at bars and convenience stores, and they didn't have a wide variety of flavors that local craft breweries produce today. You basically had Budweiser, Michelob, Coors, Miller, and all the other worldwide brewers.
Between 1986 and 2018, local breweries in Maine grew from just one to 122 active breweries. As of February 2022, there were 165 total between active and licensed breweries.
Today, many of these breweries also have restaurants, so planning a night out at one of the many breweries in Maine can be a tough decision with the hundreds to choose from. Well, we want to make that easier for you.
