Augusta Skate Park Expansion Under Way

One of the things I remember most fondly about growing up was how much time and how much fun I had on my skateboard.

The sport of skateboarding has grown by leaps and bounds since then, and was even introduced as an Olympic Sport in Tokyo this year.

It's almost a rite of passage for a kid to love, hate, crash, scrape, grind, and a bunch of other adjectives with their skateboard. Even my morning show co-hosts son Logan was excited to show me his moves on his skateboard with his cousin last night at the Summer Fun Concert Series at Mill Park in Augusta.

Augusta is one of the lucky cities that has a skate park in Maine. Currently, Williams Park, at the corner of Bangor and Quimby streets is where the Augusta Skate Park calls home.

After much fundraising that scored $144,000 for an expansion of the Augusta Skate Park things are finally getting updated and expanded by 2,700 square feet according to a report by centralmaine.com.

This is a special expansion that will be dedicated to a skateboarder that loved to skate, loved to teach skating, and had a huge passion for the sport and the Augusta Skate Park. His name was Chris Thompson. Chris tragically passed away in a car accident in April of 2020 but, though the fundraising efforts of Chris's friends and family, his vision of a expanded skate part in Augusta is becoming real.

This expansion is being handled by Pivot Custom who build amazing skate parks around the country. If you get a chance stop by and check out the newly expanded park which should be completed in a few weeks.

A Look Inside The Old Cony High School

From 1930 to 2006, the Old Cony High School provided a high school education to the teenagers of Augusta, Maine. Now, it serves as senior housing. Thanks to a resident of the building, we can take a look at it.
