Two of the Best Social Media April Fools’ Posts From MaineDOT and Auburn Police
Two of Maine's government agencies got in the spirit of April Fools' Day with a couple of really great April Fools' jokes that some people fell for while others who got the joke still got a good laugh out of it.
MaineDOT - Squirrel Bridge
When squirrels cross the road, it's like a game of Frogger. They want to get to the other side. The MaineDOT is there to help with their announcement that they will be building squirrel bridges across Maine's busy roads.
One person commented on the MaineDOT's posting saying "You know this is a joke because it said they will be done in a year." Ouch, but he's not wrong. Just don't expect to see and squirrel bridge on the Maine Turnpike anytime soon. Or ever.

Auburn Police Department - Police Cat
You've heard of Police Dogs, right? The Auburn Police Department introduced its first Police Cat on April Fools' Day. The photo is an obvious AI creation, but it still gets a laugh. Here's what the Auburn Police said about their new C.A.T. program.
Since 2007, the Auburn Police Department has had a very successful K-9 program. We thought it was the purrfect time to add a feline component. The Auburn PD is proud to welcome Clawdia, the first member of our Cat Action Team (C.A.T.).
Although she does need frequent cat naps, our newest pawfficer has exceptional “swat” skills and the ability to pounce on cat burglars. For obvious reasons, the agency has no plans to blend the C.A.T. unit with the K-9 unit. Instead, the C.A.T. unit will work closely with our Animal Control Officer.
To the MaineDOT and the Auburn Police Department, I say "well played!" I can't wait to see what you come up with next year.
