Lobster rolls and New England.  Synonymous for sure, and only in the last 100 years, according to New England Today.  We're all about our Maine lobster, but it's a place called Perry's in Milford, Connecticut, where hot, buttered lobster on a bun was invented back in 1929. Prior to that, we were all about cold lobster salad with mayo on a plate, according to New England Today.

Our split top buns off the griddle and golden brown with warm, buttery lobster or chilled, mayo-based lobster are the best in the country, if not the world. And even those of us in New England like to explore and try new lobster rolls, or visit our favorite places nearby.

Have you tried any of these five lobster rolls?  From roadside shack to cool vibes restaurants on the water, they've all been stamped as the best lobster rolls in New England. Even though it's all relative, it's still fun to learn about lobster shacks and restaurants with the best ones, even if it's already your go-to.

McLoons Lobster Shack in South Thomaston is waaaaaaay up there by Rockland, about two hours or so from Portland. There, you can watch lobster fisherman unloading fresh catches while biting into what New England Today describes as candy-sweet lobster meat on a perfectly buttered bun.  You can go with the hot ones, cold with mayo on the bottom of the bun versus mixed with the lobster meat, or a half-n-half.

Rye Harbor Lobster Pound in Rye Harbor is out on a tiny peninsula on the water and doesn't even have a website.  It's in the New Hampshire Seacoast and stands out as a must according to New England Today, because the hot roll is bathed in a butter-sherry sauce similar to lobster Newberg. So, you have the sweet meat with a nutty, tangy wine combo happening in your mouth.  They have cold rolls, too.
