A wonderful event happening soon in Windham is another great reminder about how important pet adoption continues to be.

Maine Lab Rescue, a leading pet adoption agency in the state, is teaming up with Tractor Supply Co. in Windham for the special event.

The adoption event will have a little bit of everything, including information and resources for those newer to the adoption process.

For someone who has adopted countless pets over the years, I can't tell you how important an event like this is. So much top-of-mind awareness is needed for these foster dogs and cats. It's not as easy to find homes for these guys. We aren't necessarily talking about a new litter of perfect kittens or whatever the latest hybrid dog breed is.

These are all wonderful animals, some who have already been through hell. Others may have been abandoned due to an illness or injury. Sadly, sometimes an owner dies and there's no home for the pet to go to. Whatever the story is, it shouldn't ever diminish how unique and important that animal truly is.

All pets are great. However, any adopter will tell you, there's a special love that comes from a rescue pet that you would never get from anywhere else.

The event this weekend runs from 11am to 1pm, and Maine Lab Rescue's Facebook page has a wealth of images of many of the animals that will be there on Saturday. You can also find out more information by visiting mainelabrescue.com.

If you are looking for some more love in your life, then I would suggest a trip to this event on Saturday. However, the need for foster families and adopters doesn't end there. Find your local pet shelter here.
