Portland’s Independence Day Celebration Highlights [Photos/Audio]
It was a day late, but the Independence Day celebration was worth waiting for. Because of Hurricane Arthur's heavy rain on July 4th, Portland Stars & Stripe's Spectacular was postponed until July 5th.
July 5, 2014 was a blustery but rain free day. There were rumors of cancellations for the postponed 4th of July events and fireworks because of the high winds. Banners were ripped away, tents tumbled down the hill side and spectators chased after their belongs on the Eastern Prom in Portland.
By the time the sun set, the winds had settled down enough to raise the gargantuan speaker stacks and enjoy a beautiful Maine summer evening with food, music and fireworks.
The Middlesex County volunteers Fifes & Drums marched to the prom from Portland City Hall. Their uniforms looked spectacular.
The 94.9 HOM American National Anthem winner, Kelsey Walker wowed the crowd with her singing. Nice job, Kelsey! Listen to her here:
