One of the things I love the most about this community is how quickly we band together in support of one another.

Whether it's in celebration of a recent win or milestone, or to help ease one another's burdens when hardships come, the love and sense of community here is one of the things that has endeared southern Maine to me over the years.

In particular, the artistic community here has been one of the greatest sources of comfort and encouragement during some of the most difficult times in my life.  As someone who believes that doing good begets good, I'm always looking for opportunities to "pay forward" all the kindnesses I've received. So when I first heard of Keith's stroke, I knew I wanted to help them in any way that I could.

Keith is the Artistic Director of the Dramatic Repertory Company (DRC) here in Portland, which has produced many incredible plays in the Portland area. He's also a husband and a father to an adorable little girl.

After learning of his stroke, I found myself drawn to his wife Vanessa's Facebook page, as she chronicled the first few days after finding her husband on the floor. Of course, it helped that she is a fantastic writer whose humor and hilarious 'stream of consciousness' writing style is both informative and entertaining! Especially heartwarming though, was the outpouring of support I witnessed from our community.

Someone close to the family has created a gofundme account to help support his wife and daughter during Keith's long recovery, and as he progresses so do the mounting bills for his care. If you would like to help support the family please click on the link below to donate or consider sharing this post.
