The Cannes Film Festival in France is getting some flack today after turning away women who were not wearing high heeled shoes.

The festival is notorious for it's strict dress code. Men must wear tuxedos and black shoes and women must wear dresses, but people were shocked to learn that many women were actually being turned away.

Thousands took to twitter expressing their disgust with the festival using #flatgate #shoegate and #cannesheels just to name a few.

And as if it couldn't get more ironic, tonight the Cannes is honoring Ingrid Bergman, who herself did not care for high heels as she was conscientious of her height

Even stars like Emily Blunt voiced their disapproval stating "Everyone should wear flats, to be honest, at the best of times".

I think it's safe to say that moving forward the Cannes may want to rethink their high heel policy, or at the very least, require everyone to wear them. I mean, who wouldn't love to see that?
