Yes, This 3-Bedroom Maine Home Really Only Costs $11,000
Believe it or not, when I was a kid growing up in Northern Maine, you really could buy an in-town house for about $30,000. Now, things are WAAAYYY different!
Most people pay more than $30,000 for their vehicle, and the average price for a home in my hometown (Houlton) is about $150,000.
That's one of the reasons why this three-bedroom, one-bathroom home really stuck out to me. I was not really even looking at the pictures on the real estate site.
I was just scrolling through looking at the prices, so the price of $10,900 REALLY stuck out.
This home, which is located at 2 Watson Avenue in the Aroostook County town of Houlton, is a decent 1800+ square feet. It has three bedrooms, one bathroom, a good-sized kitchen, a dining room, and a living room. It also has a solid-looking cement basement (some of the homes up there still have dirt floor basements).
It also needs some work...
But, given the price of the home, you probably already figured that out.

The listing goes on to say:
She has seen better days but has a great layout to work with. This 3 bd, 1 bath home has potential but needs help. Bring your heavy equipment, skills, and creativity to turn this home into a profit! This home is being sold as is. Owner Financing is an option!
One of the great things about the location of this home is that it is in a great residential neighborhood, and it is within walking distance to downtown Houlton. Yes, Houlton is a very small town, but it has a great downtown that is loaded with all kinds of great local shops and restaurants.
What do you think? What would you do to the home if you bought it?
