A new gourmet hot dog joint coming to the Naples Causeway will serve up dogs to the busy crowds this summer.

The first thing I think of when I hear the name "Wonder Dogs" is my life as a kid in the 1970s, growing up watching Saturday morning cartoons. I never missed the Superfriends, which had a dog named Wonderdog. I have a feeling owner Rick Boyd may have watched Superfriends, too.

What is a Wonderdog?

What makes a hot dog a wonder dog? The Wonderdogs website has the answer:

The Double Dog Dare

A Christmas Story introduced the world to the "double dog dare," and even went all the way to the triple dog dare. Wonderdogs will have its own challenge, but it only goes to the double dog level.

If you can finish 2-foot-long Rabid Dogs & an order of Torch Taters in 20 minutes or less you get this t-shirt to show off your skills.

The Rabid Dog is topped with spicy thick-cut bacon, grilled onions, garlic-habanero sauce, and crispy garlic bits. What are Torch Taters? I think you probably have a pretty good idea just by the name.

Wonderdogs will have indoor and outdoor seating and plenty of wonderdogs for everyone. No opening date has been announced, but with the weather soon turning to warmer and brighter days, it won't be long now.
