Next Sunday, July 28th, is the 30th annual Open Farm Day here in the state of Maine!
This is a day for us consumers to experience just a taste of what goes into the day to day work and processes of our local farms. Some offer visits with animals, tractor rides, samples, demonstrations, hands-on experiences and more!
There are DOZENS of participating farms throughout the state so no matter where you find yourself that Sunday, you're pretty much guaranteed to be close-by to a participating farm. Here are a few to give you an idea of what to expect!
Boothby's Orchard and Farm in Livermore will feature wagon rides through their orchard and a tour through their 1850s barn.
If you like cheese you may want to visit Nezinscot Farm in Turner where they'll have cheese demonstrations and cheese sampling!
Black Acres Farm in Wilton is offering tours through their sap house and sampling their honey, syrup, beef, and pork!
Ever met a buffalo? Maine Water Buffalo Co. in Appleton will let you get up close and personal with the creatures as well as their goats, sheep, and lambs.
Meet an alpaca and then shop for goods made with alpaca yarn; socks, coats, and even teddy bears at Northern Solstice Alpaca Farm, LLC in Unity.
