Recent Snowfall Brings Skiing and Snow Shoeing Back to Smiling Hill Farm in Westbrook
This winter, the weather in Maine has been all over the place. For much of December and January, there was little snow on the ground which made outdoor activities in the snow impossible. That is until we had storm after storm dumping snow on the ground seemingly every other day.
No X-Country Skiing at Smiling Hill Farm
Winter at Smiling Hill Farm in Westbrook always means outdoor activities. Specifically cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. It's fun and is great exercise as long as there is snow on the ground.
On New Year's Day, Smiling Hill Farm announced that they would be discontinuing cross-country skiing due to the lack of snow and would offer snow shoeing if and when enough snow is on the ground.
Fast Forward 38 Days
The weather pattern changed in a big way with several winter storms coming through Maine with the latest dumping 10 inches of snow in the Portland area on top of the snow still on the ground from previous storms. The snowbanks are high and the shovels are busy after all these storms with more to come.
That's good news for Smiling Hill Farm which announced on February 7 that snow shoeing and cross-country skiing are back. The trails are open and ready. At just $6, it's an affordable way to get outside and enjoy the Maine winter now that the snow is here.
If you're planning to go, make sure you check in and pay at the Ice Cream Barn before you head out. Need snow shoes? They've got those for rental as well.
