This New Hampshire Weather Observer Rode Waves…on the Top of Mount Washington
You've most likely visited Mount Washington, the highest peak in the Northeastern United States, I mean, a lot of us New Englanders even have the sticker (or magnet) proving that our car climbed Mount Washington.
Located in New Hampshire's White Mountains, Mount Washington is frequently visited and passed by both locals and tourists.
One thing that the Mount Washington Observatory keeps seeing on the mountain is rime ice.
Back in January 2023, the Mount Washington Observatory spotted a return on the Old Man of the Mountain. That's right, after almost two decades, the tourist attraction reappeared in New Hampshire.
The formation of the Old Man of the Mountain that they saw was due to rime ice.
However, another really cool formation was created on Mount Washington thanks to rime ice.
Imagine yourself surfing down Mount Washington! Okay, maybe not actually surfing but being able to fake it a bit. Well, according to the Mount Washington Observatory, that's exactly what they were able to do the other day.
Mount Washington Observatory posted on Facebook the other day with a photo of Weather Observer, Hayden Pearson.
Pearson was able to actually catch a wave at the top of New England all thanks to "persistent northwest winds and several hours of fog" that resulted in rime ice.
The rime ice formation literally looked like a giant wave, so Pearson grabbed a surfboard and stood on it under this rime wave to look like he was about to go surfing.
Not going to lie, this made for a wicked cool photo. Personally, I cannot wait to see what other formations rime ice will make this year, we already had two formations that are honestly unforgettable.
