I am very picky about Chinese food. I grew up eating plenty of it from the world's greatest Asian chef -- my stepmother. When my friends tell me to try this place or that, I usually don't. I know I will probably be disappointed.

I discovered this restaurant as I was walking down Congress Street the other night. I had just come from a concert at the State Theatre and was jonesing for Chinese noodles. So, I took a chance on the Golden Lotus, just down the street from the State. I immediately ordered tea and sat down to study the menu. There were a few noodle dishes to choose from, but not the one I wanted. I was craving Chicken Lo Mein. Hmmmm... No Chicken Lo Mein on the menu. That was odd. There were only beef and vegetarian options. When the server came back to take my order, I asked about it. She told me it was available, but did not know why it wasn't on the menu. I wondered if I should order it, thinking maybe it wasn't their best dish. Ultimately, I caved to my cravings and threw all caution to the wind. (Over-dramatic, I know. What can I say? I'm a queen.)

First impressions are important: My Chicken Lo Mein looked and smelled delicious. It was time to dig in... And I liked it! The noodles weren't too soft, and the sauce wasn't too spicy. The lotus flower on the side of the plate was a nice touch. Perfection!

My only disappointment with the Golden Lotus is that they don't deliver. Other than that, I'll be coming back for more deliciousness.
