Presented and put on by the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad & Museum, the annual Polar Express train ride is a Maine family tradition.

It has been years since my family and I have been down to take a ride on the classic steam-powered engine and her 10 beautifully appointed passenger cars. This weekend we went back and relived all the magic from the movie all over again.

The train departs from 49 Thames street near Ocean Gateway. Along the journey will be a reading of the Polar Express book and the singing of lots of your favorite Christmas carols.

Eventually you'll notice the train begin to slow down as it enters the train station of the North Pole! After coming to a stop, the Big Guy himself will board the train and interact with each and every child on board for the most magical Christmas experience.

After that, the train chugs back to Ocean Gateway where cookies and hot cocoa await everyone that took the ride.

If you're interested in taking a ride for yourself, you'll want to hurry as the season is almost over and every single ride sells out.
