Check it out one of the states most beloved seafood spots is making it’s awaited return, Ted’s Fried Clams in Shapleigh. Ted’s is now under new ownership officially set to reopen on May 1st, according to WGME.

Why did they close in the first place?

Sadly, nearly 3 years ago they have a devastating fire and was forced to shut their doors.

As per the article, Ted’s was founded back in 1950 by Theodore and Grace Mavrakos as a small roadside stop on Route 109.

Ted’s has evolved into a staple for over three generations now. Locals and visitors from all over come for their crispy fried clams, seafood baskets, and that incredible Maine charm.

They temporarily relocated to Sanford and another closure in 2025 took place so many of us wondered if they would ever return to their roots.

Let’s jump into who owns it now and what’s going on.

Joe Christopher of Upward Management Group, Rob and Matt Orr of Shapleigh Marine, and Roger Zeghibe of the Beantown Pub are all bringing this landmark back to life.

Even more reassuring?

The former owner John Mavrakos is reportedly working with the team to revive the original recipes and love that made Ted’s famous for 75 years.
