If you've had it with lugging your kiddos and umbrellas to a not-so-great lake with gritty sand or too many tourists, good news, one of the very best swimming lakes in the country is right here, in New Hampshire.

And it’s not Winnipesaukee!

According to Readers Digest, Squam Lake earned it’s spot on their list of top 26 swimming lakes in the United States.

For me, it’s very easy to see why.  

Did you know that this gorgeous lake isn’t just gorgeous, it’s iconic? It’s sitting pretty in the heart of the states Lakes Region. It was even featured on the classic movie, On Golden Pond.

It has sparkling clean water and a shore that begs you to jump into it. Squam lake is the absolute most refreshing dip you’ll have.

It’s a freshwater lake and isn’t overcrowded with tourists. It’s rare and serene. The boats are capped at 40 mph and even slower at night so the water will always be pretty still and serene for swimming, as per the article. 

Oh! And did I mention you can discover the hidden island coves? Oh yes, so many peaceful nooks to uncover. I love a good nook to cool off in.
