See Olympic Medalist and Dover, NH Native Jessica Parratto in Person
Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Jessica Parratto will visit Dover on Tuesday.
Mayor Robert Carrier, members of the city council and other officials will be attending an event in front of city hall to help celebrate Parratto's Olympic diving achievements. The public is welcome to attend, according to a press release issued on Friday.
Parratto and diving partner Delaney Schnell made history at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo as they earned the silver medal in the women’s 10-meter platform synchronized diving competition.
It wasn’t going well after their first two dives of the day at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre, the easy back dive pike and reverse dive pike. They scored mostly in the 7.0-8.0 range, but most of the other teams were better and they ranked seventh on each.
“That kind of lit my fire under me,” Parratto said afterward.
Parratto and Schnell's fifth and final dive was the clincher, drawing high praise from the commentators. Every duo dove a back 2 1/2-somersault pike with 1 1/2 twists.
"Oh my goodness that was the best dive they have done at the right time, at the ideal time," NBC's commentator said of their final dive.
Parratto is originally from Dover and moved to Indianapolis in 2009 due to limited training facilities for divers, according to her Team USA bio.
The 27-year-old athlete also participated in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she placed seventh in the same event and 10th in the individual 10-meter platform diving competition, according to the press release.
Carrier said on Friday afternoon that Parratto will also be honored by the Boston Red Sox while she is visiting the area.
He was the one who arranged the event, which will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday in front of city hall.
"We'll have police and fire and the chamber with a ribbon and a proclamation read by myself for the city honoring her," Carrier said. "It's all good. It's all great."
