A Scholarship is being established to honor journalist Steven Sotloff at Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, New Hampshire. While in captivity, two documents were smuggled to his parents stating that he wanted an endowment fund set up.

Steven was murdered after being kidnapped and held in captivity by ISIS. Steven had two documents smuggled out and delivered back to the United States. One of his wishes included setting up a fund  to support journalism and global studies. Steven was a 2002 graduate of the school. Head of School Mike Schafer announced Tuesday, September 9, 2014 that the Steven J. Sotloff Fund to Inspire Journalism and Global Scholarship has been established in Steven Sotloff '02's honor. Schafer stated, "Even in the face of danger, Steven’s courage and desire to tell the world about the plight of the voiceless was nothing short of remarkable." Contributions to this fund can now be made at the school's website.
