Westbrook's Rock Row has been busy the past few weeks with Chick-fil-A opening up and the announcement of a plan to start construction on Maine's largest convention center. Now get ready for another big retailer to open their doors soon.

REI Co-op has announced that it is opening its first store in Maine at Rock Row on Friday, November 12 right door to Market Basket.

REI is based out of Seattle and sells sporting goods, camping gear, travel equipment, clothing and offers outdoor courses like fishing and snowshoeing. If this sounds familiar to you, REI is a competitor to Maine's very own L.L. Bean as well as Nebraska-based Cabela's with their store in Scarborough. How successful they will be in getting Mainers to go to REI versus L.L. Bean in Freeport remains to be seen. We Mainers love Beans, so this should be an interesting battle of the brands.

According to a press release, REI at Rock Row will officially open on Friday, November 12 at 10 a.m. and will be open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. 40 people have been hired so far to work at the store with some part-time and full-time positions still available.
