Portland Sea Dogs Home Opener Is This Friday
The Boys Of Summer are back!
This Friday the Portland Sea Dogs will host Tim Tebow and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies at Hadlock Field with a game time of 6pm. Gates open at 4.
Starting on the mound for the Sea Dogs will be Red Sox left hander Drew Pomeranz, who is continuing his Major League rehab assignment. He is currently on Boston's 10 day disabled list with a strained flexor in his left forearm.
This is the 25th season for the Sea Dogs. Portland was one of two Eastern League expansion teams in 1992 to begin playing in 1994. That meant the city of Portland had just about two years to decide on and build a home for the team. Hadlock Field was a high school stadium before it became a Minor League Ballpark. The stadium is named after Edison Hadlock. who was the baseball coach for the high school for several years.
In May of '93 the Sea Dogs singed a deal to be an affiliate to the Florida Marlins (now the Miami Marlins.) The Dogs lost their very first home game to the Albany Colonie Yankees 7-6 in front of a sold out crowd.
In 2003 they became an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. That change in affiliation boosted the team in the 2005 and 2006 seasons as the Dogs went to the Eastern League championship series both years. They won their first ever title on September 17, 2006.
The Sea Dogs are still affiliated with the Red Sox which means whenever you go to a Sea Dogs game you're watching future Red Sox stars, or current Red Sox players.
