When the summer heat cranks up in Maine, people flock to Saco and Old Orchard Beach for water parks and oceanfront fun. After a long day at a park or toasting in the sun, there's no better way to cool off than with a delicious ice cream. But not just any ice cream will do, which is why Martel's Ice Cream Shop has been in business for more than three decades. They've consistently found a way to remain extraordinary and have become a destination along a busy portion of Route One in Saco.

What Makes Martel's So Great?

Those decades in business have resulted in generations of family members making all the delicious flavors that Martel's ice Cream offers up. But it also has made customers feel like family and vice versa. The friendly demeanor and smiles behind the counter go a long way. Meanwhile, their menu board has all the favorites you'd expect to see, but it's their special flavors that keep longtime customers coming back to try something new. Which flavor you decide on, you'll probably want to have it served in one of Martel's homemade waffle cones, which are out of this world.

Is It Just Ice Cream At Martel's?

It could be but it isn't. Martel's serves up sandwiches, including an Italian sandwich and they also make their own fudge amongst other items. If that isn't enough to draw you in, there's an 18-hole miniature golf course on-site. Play the course and reward yourself with a hot fudge sundae.

Where Is Martel's and When Are They Open?

They're located at 757 Portland Road in Saco across the street from Funtown/Splashtown U.S.A. Their hours change based on the season but you can make your first visit of the year on April 15th, their official opening date for 2021.
