Nicole Kidman Doesn’t Care Her Children With Tom Cruise Are Scientologists
In a rare turn of events, Nicole Kidman recently opened up publicly about her relationship with her two adopted adult children with ex-husband Tom Cruise.
Kidman and Cruise adopted Isabella and Connor, now 25 and 23, a few years after marrying in 1990. The power couple famously split 10 years later and in the years following, many speculated Cruise's devotion to controversial religion Scientology played a part in the divorce.
The couple's two children chose to live with Cruise and were raised as Scientologists. Their devotion to the religion has allegedly created a divide between them and Kidman, who is not part of the church.
"I'm very private about all that," Kidman recently said to Australia's Who magazine. "I have to protect all those relationships. I know 150 percent that I would give up my life for my children because it's what my purpose is."
"They are adults," Kidman asserts in response to the siblings' chosen religion. "They are able to make their own decisions. They have made choices to be Scientologists and as a mother, it's my job to love them. And I am an example of that tolerance and that's what I believe – that no matter what your child does, the child has love and the child has to know there is available love and I'm open here."
Kidman capped off the subject with a sentiment most parents can relate to: "That's our job as a parent, to always offer unconditional love."
Rumors have circulated for years that the two siblings are not close with Kidman due to the influence of the Church of Scientology, but both have publicly refuted that. "I don't care what people say, I know that me and Mum are solid. I love her a lot," Connor told Australian outlet Woman's Day in 2016.
Kidman also has two young daughters – Sunday Rose, 10, and Faith Margaret, 7 – with husband Keith Urban.
