Perhaps one of the more understated closings during the height of pandemic was that of Scarborough Downs. Maine's largest racetrack shut down in November of 2020 after 70 years in operation. The racetrack, along with more than 500 acres of surrounding property, were sold with the promise of a large-scale development featuring residential and commercial space as well as opportunities for events. The development at The Downs is certainly underway, and now a signature event has been launched.

Popular Westbrook and Freeport brewery Mast Landing has announced their first-ever Wavy Days Beer Fest. Mast Landing has made a name for themselves by brewing dozens of critically acclaimed beers, including their signature peanut butter stout called Gunner's Daughter. Mast Landing has worked in collaboration with other breweries to create new offerings as well. Those collaborations inspired Mast Landing to launch a beer fest that will bring together more than 40 exceptional breweries from across the country for a 4-day celebration at Scarborough Downs.

The pillar of the festivities will be the beer fest on Saturday, July 23rd. The 4-hour gathering will feature many breweries that rarely are heard from in Maine, and a ticket to the event will include unlimited pours while supplies last. The beer fest will also feature food trucks on site. Mast Landing is planning other unique events for the remaining days of the celebration. The beer fest will be 21+ only, and pets will not be allowed. A list of participating breweries can be found here, and more are expected to be added.
